David Blacklock, 76 years old last April, loved husband of Adeline Blacklock and father of 15 children, six of whom survive him, died at his home on Division street Thursday afternoon at 4:20 o'clock. Death resulted from the effects of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered at his home three weeks ago. The deceased was born in Scotland. He came to America with h[ ] parents when a small boy and located in Illinois with them. He made the voyage from Scotland on a sailing vessel, Forest King, and nine weeks was consumed in making the journey. Of this time he was out of sight of land for eight weeks. He disembarked at New Orleans and came up the Mississippi river on the steamer Garden City when it was making its famous r[un] from New Orleans to St. L[ouis]. There was a wager of fifty [dollars] between the captain of the [Garden] City and the New Lucy ________. Blacklock who had taken [passage to] Chester was placed in _____________ and sent ashore with _______________making the stop.

From Chester he [proceeded to Tuttles] Prairie 8 miles so[uth of Du]Quoin where he _____________________ ere he met Mis[s] Adaline [Murphy] and on March 16, 1864 they [were m]arried at the home of her mother on the site of where Grange Hall no stands just north of this city. They lived for a number of years on his fathers farm about one mile south of Oraville and later moved to Cox's Prairie where they resided until they moved to this city about nine years ago.
