Marjorie was my mother's older half-sister. The family lore that was passed down was that Marjorie died in a horse riding accident in Central Park. My sister's recent genealogical sleuthing, however, has uncovered the real story. Marjorie left home at 16 and traveled to New York City, presumably to follow dreams of being an actress or dancer on Broadway. However, in the midst of the Great Depression, Marjorie found New York City to be a much harsher reality then she imagined. She turned to taxi dancing as a means of survival, and died from acute colitis a couple of years later.
