Long-time Sulphur resident Felton Meche passed away on July 27, 2012 after an extended illness. He will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith and his country.
Born on July 6, 1924 as the eighth of 12 children to Lucien and Ella LeBlanc Meche, Mr. Meche was raised on a farm in Bosco, Louisiana. Just after his 19th birthday, he became a Private First Class in the U. S. Army's 89th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron Mechanized. Mr. Meche was wounded three times in the service of his country, including during the historic D-Day invasion of Normandy. His collection of military commendations includes both a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Mr. Meche was married to his bride, Marjorie Lee Alleman, for more than 65 years. His passing is survived by his wife and their five children: Jennie (Bob) Verrett, Danny Meche, Sam Meche (Terry), Liz (Dennis) Sonnier and Mike (Terry) Meche. He also has 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two surviving brothers, Leo and John Meche.
An active member of the Knights of Columbus, Mr. Meche was a dedicated parishioner at Immaculate Conception in Sulphur. He retired after a long career with CITGO and spent time at church with friends, gardening and spoiling his great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. Sunday with a scripture service at 6 p.m. and from 9 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
