He married Lauretta Filiatrault on April 17, 1955 in Philadelphia, NY and she died October 27, 1973.
After his naval service he attended Buffalo Barber College. From 1961 until his retirement in May 2012, he owned and operated the Carriage House Barber Shop. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church, and a member of both the Knights of Columbus Council 259 and American Legion Post 61.
He is survived by his three children, Kevin P. Benware and wife, Ruth A., Watertown, Cheryl A. Benware, Gouverneur, and Anthony J. Benware, Adams; six grandchildren and one great grandson; three siblings, Clarence Benware, Black River, Carl Benware, Watertown, and Jeanette Caulkins, Watertown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
