Note found in the St. Tammany Farmer Sept. 30, 1882 calls into question the actual day of Rev. Pounds death:
Mr. A. L. Carpenter, and old and highly respected citizen of this parish, died at his residence on Pearl River on Friday, the 22d inst. Rev. Joseph Pounds, Baptist Minister, of Marion county, Miss., also died on the same night. The Baptist Church and the community at large sustain a severe loss in the death of the above-named estimable gentlemen.
