He was engaged in the mercantile business in Tennessee, Ohio, Missouri, and the last 25 years of his life was spent in business at Trinidad, Colorado. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Masonic order.

Their children were Edward Putnam, born May 13, 1868, died June 25,1869.

Samuel Carrington, born December 5,1869, died June 19,1894, at Manchester, Tennessee.

Charles Henderson, born November 4, 1872, died December 11, 1933.

Waldine Gertrude, born March 16,1875, died in 1934.
