Phillip D. Allred, 81, of Pittsburg, died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
He was born Nov. 23, 1921, to John Alfred and Lillie Belle Smalley Allred.
He attended area schools and graduated from Cherokee High School. He went on to Pittsburg State University, where he obtained an associate's degree in radio and television technology.
Allred was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
On June 1, 1944, he married Oreta Rink at Cherokee. She survives of the home.
He was a self-employed radio and television technician for 40 years, retiring in 1985.
He also was a former member of Pittsburg Masonic Lodge.
Additional survivors include one son, Phil Allred, of Pittsburg; one daughter, Denise Harrod, of Colleyville, Texas; one sister, Edna Rink, of Frontenac; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
According to his wishes, he has been taken for cremation, with private services to be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the home of Phil Allred, 808 W. Kansas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg.
