Mrs. Mary Jeanine Castro, age 76, of Blackshear, died Thursday morning (July 26, 2012) at the Satilla Care Center in Waycross following an extended illness.

She was born in Bacon County and lived in various places before moving to Blackshear in the mid 1990s. She was a 1955 graduate of Waycross High School. Her family owned and operated White's Home and Auto Store in Waycross in the 70's but more recently she was employed by Holiday Inn Express where she assisted with the continental breakfast. One accomplishment that she was most proud of was obtaining her CNA degree late in life. She attended Hacklebarney Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 181.

She was preceded in death by her father the late John Lee McCrea, Sr., her step-father Everett M. Moore, and a daughter-in-law Julie Hicks.

Mrs. Castro is survived by two daughters: Theresa Waldron (husband Wayne) of Blackshear and Amanda Hicks of Pensacola, FL; a son: J. Robert Hicks (wife Debbie) of St. Mary's; her mother: Ocie Lee Moore of Blackshear: 7 grandchildren: Jason Waldron (wife Claudia) of Hoboken, Emily Robbins (husband John) of Blackshear, Ross Smith of Atlanta, Brittney Peeples of Kingsland, Kaylee Hicks of Jacksonville, FL, Amber Hicks of St. Mary's, and Jeff Peery; 4 great grandchildren: Landon Warfield, Jace Waldron, Oliver Peery, and Averie Robbins; 1 sister: Equendial Buie (husband Bobby) of Blackshear; 2 brothers: John L. McCrea Jr. of Blackshear and Tommy McCrea (wife Faye) of Waycross, and many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A memorial service will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 PM in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Satilla or the Southeast Cancer Unit.
