Daniel Copp was born in Groton Connecticut in the long line of Copp family farmers. The Copps also engaged in the shipping trade.

28 July 1806 Daniel Copp purchased a plantion at St. Marys on Point Peter in what would become the state of Florida in 1821. He became a councilman, a trustee of St Marys Methodist Church.

In 1819 Daniel Copp relocated to St. Augustine and became Acting Postmaster at some point prior to 1821. His son Belton Copp was postmaster of St Marys at this time. The Copps owned one or two coastal vessels at this point.

Daniel Copp was one of twenty one men to receive a Coporation Appointment in St Augustine... St Augustine was ravaged by a yellow fever epidemic in late 1821 and early 1822. Daniel Copp died 10 January 1822 in St. Augustine
