Lost Both Legs After Gangrene Forced Amputation.
Samuel F. Hockensmith, 76, a cigar maker and life long resident of Brushtown, died at his home in that community Tuesday evening at 7:70 o'clock. Death was due to complications.
Mr. Hockensmith had been confined to his bed since the first of the year. Both legs had been amputated in the last year or two to arrest development of gangrene.
His brother, John L. Hockensmith, Centennial, died Saturday and was buried Tuesday.
A son of the late John and Elizabeth Hockensmith, he was married January 4, 1876, to Miss Susanna Myers who survives with the following children; Mrs, Eugene Weaver, Mrs. Harry Crichten, Brushtown, Mrs. Harry Loseman, McSherrystown; Mrs. Edward Noel, Hanover; Mrs. Charles Small, Mrs. Eugene Shorb, Harry Hockensmith, Midway; George Hockensmith, Irishtown and Miss Grace Hockensmith, at home.
He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Emma Small, McSherrystown; 48 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Funeral services Thursday with soleman High Mass of Requiem at St. Mary's Catholic Church, McSherrystown, the Rev. Dr. L.A. Reudter, celebrant, and burial in St. Mary's cemetery.
