VIRGINIA A. STERLING, 91, widow of A. Foster Sterling of Powell, Monroeton RR 1, died Tuesday morning, July 26, 1994 at the Dar-Way Nursing Home, Elkland Township, Pa. Born March 4, 1903 in Wyalusing she was a daughter of the late William P. and LuLu Lee Allis. Virginia spent her early years in Rochester, Pa. where her father worked on the railroad. She attended the Rochester schools and later graduated as a child’s nurse from the Pittsburg Home for Babies. On Nov. 26, 1924 she married A. Foster Sterling of Towanda in Montrose, Pa. They made their home in Towanda until 1944 when they moved to Powell. She was a member of the Powell United Methodist Church, an honorary member of the official board and a member of the United Methodist Women, where she held an office and was a past Sunday school teacher. Virginia was a charter member of the Alice Betts Class of the Towanda First Presbyterian Church. She was a 50-year member of the George Clymer Chapter of the D.A.R., Towanda, where she held several offices and she was also a past member of the Senior Citizens Club of Towanda. She possessed great love for her family and her home. Surviving are: a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia S. and Martin Shaffer of Monroeton RR 1; four granddaughters and their husbands; Dian and Frank Saxon of Rock Hill S.C., Alice Kay and Terri Weingartner of Powell, Bonnie and Kevin Keller of Allentown, Pa. and Linda and Karl Cook of Monroeton; eight great-grandchildren; Connie Watkins, Frannie and Tai Saxon, Karen and Marty Weingartner, Brian and Karla Cook and Kurt Keller; a sister; Eleanor A. Bell of Aurora, Colo.; and several nieces nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Foster Sterling on Aug. 17, 1977; an infant son on March5, 1926 and a brother, Lee Allis. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 28,1994 at 11 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda with the Rev. Dan Walker, pastor of the Powell United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Wysox Cemetery, Wysox. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home
