Wences was survived by his wife, Martha Abeyta; children: Vences Abeyta Jr. (wife Jeanell), James Abeyta (wife Rebecca), Walter Abeyta (wife Almi), Emily Archuleta (husband Alfonso), Evette Abeyta, Sharon Moya (husband Jeff), and Christopher Abeyta; step-children: Perla and Jesus Rascon; daughter-in-law Lorraine Abeyta; mother of his children Alice Abeyta; 27 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister Severa DeAguero; sisters-in-law: Lydia and Ulalia Abeyta; and countless other loving relatives & friends.
Wences was a well-known business man throughout New Mexico, who worked very hard and passed on his wonderful work ethic to his children. He was a great provider to his family and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and being outdoors. He had a gentle, kind heart and was a very giving person.
A devotional service was held on July 26, 2012 at the Lighthouse Church in Chimayo. Funeral service was held on July 27, 2012 at the Lighthouse Church in Chimayo. Burial followed at the Lighthouse Cemetery. Pallbearers: Rudy Abeyta Jr., Matthew Abeyta, Jeffery Moya, Delano Moya, Norbert Abeyta, Andrew Abeyta, and Alfonso Archuleta Jr. Honorary pallbearers: Larry Sanchez, Gilbert DeAguero, Cecil DeAguero, Sammy Abeyta, Jerry Abeyta, David Abeyta, and Jimmy Abeyta.
