William Edward "Ed" Gambrell, 76 of Laurel died at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. on Tuesday, July 25, 2012

He was born on November 28, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bura and Lucy Gambrell, and brothers J.E. Gambrell, Carl Gambrell, and sister Marguerite (Gambrell) Allen, and son-in-law Ed Ronk, and brother-in-law, Harold Jefcoats.

Services will be 2 PM Friday at Memory Chapel with burial to follow in Summerland Cemetery in Smith County. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at Memory Chapel. Rev. Kenny McMinn will officiate.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth H. Gambrell, of Laurel, MS, his children, Karen Ronk, Kathy Allen, of Nashville, TN, Donna (Temple) Fleming and husband Robert Fleming of Houston, TX, Dianne Brady and husband Billy Brady of Laurel, MS, and Ron Temple and wife Vanessa (Griggs) Temple of Knoxville, TN. He is also survived by sister, Kitty Jefcoats of Taylorsville MS, and brother, Billy Gambrell of Hot Coffee, MS. He was Poppie to his 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Holder and husband, Brent of Chattanooga, TN, Courtney Copeland of Laurel,MS, and Robert Fleming,Jr, Brandi Fleming, and Jared Fleming of Houston, TX., and Evan Temple, of Knoxville, TN and to his 6 great-great children, Dakota Hutchinson, Ava Holder, Analee Thompson, Mckyleigh Copeland, Layla Holder, and Zayden Arredondo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1960 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Schlumberger in 1990 and then retired from the State of Florida.

He was an avid gun enthusiast and loved reloading and shooting, cross word puzzles, reading and being on his laptop computer. But most of all his loved his family the very best. Pallbearers will be Robert Fleming Sr., Robert Fleming Jr., Brent Holder, Kenny McCarty, Bill Patterson and Jared Fleming.
