Johann Daehler died in a carriage accident in Switzerland. His widow Ludwina Mueller Daehler, now the wife of Ursus Borer, brought Johann's skull to America in a small casket. It was reburied in the Borer family plot at Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul. In order to save space the Swiss burial tradition involved disinterring bodies after 20 years at which time they were reburied in a common grave. The skulls were either relocated in a "Death Chapel" or, as in this case, given to the family.
