OBITUARY
A memorial Mass for Miss Rachael Marie Whalen, 77, of Springfield will be offered at 10:15 a.m. Saturday in St. James Church, Springfield. Arrangements are by Smith & Smith (Suburban), Springfield.
Miss Whalen died Thursday in the Glenside Nursing Home, New Providence.
She was a secretary for the plant manager of the American Can Co. in Hillside from 1949 until retiring in 1982. Earlier, Miss Whalen was a secretary for the Federal Shipyards in Kearny for 11 years.
She was a member and past president of the Hillside Business and Professional Women's Club.
Born in Methil Fife, Scotland, she lived in Nanticoke, Pa., and Millburn before moving to Springfield in 1951.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Bridget Buckley and Mrs. Margaret Murray.
