Bruce Garver, the manager of this Memorial to PVT. John Aley (1791-1865), a veteran of the War of 1812, began to write the following "bio" of John on September 19, 2022:

During the War of 1812, PVT. John Aley served in "Captain Shingledecker's Company" within the Ohio Militia. This Company is among those discussed, and John Aley is among its veterans mentioned by George F. Robinson, "History of Greene County, Ohio" (S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1902).

During the year 1827, John Aley (1791–1865 ) wed Maryland-born Susanna Hawker (Aley, 1807-1844), the second-born of the six children of Andrew Hawker (1768-1850) and Susanna (Coy) Hawker (1776-1867). Together, John Aley and Susanna (Hawker) Aley raised eight children. John Aley had no children by his first wife, Catherine Aley (1797-1826) whom he married in 1822, or by his third wife, Fanny (Beardsley) Aley (1801–1870) whom he wed during the year 1846.
