Philitus Robert Axtell, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.M. Axtell, was born May 7, 1867 in Iowa County, Iowa and died at his home in Eddyville Saturday, October 7, 1939 at the age of 72 years and 5 months.
He spent most of his young life in Louisa County, Iowa.
In 1890 he was united in marriage to Miss Laurena Buttman ot Columbus City, Iowa. Four children were born to this union, Eldon Axtell of Drakesville and Dale Axtell of Ottumwa. Two children preceded him in death.
Besides his wife and two sons he is survived by three grandchildren, a brother Perry Axtell and a sister Mrs. Lottie Kemp of Muscatine. Four sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held from the L.W. Klein funeral home Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Al DeGroet officiated. Burial was made in Highland cemetery.
