James West Arrott, a prominent business man of Pittsburgh, Pa., and the founder of the Standard Mfg. Company of that city, died on December 30, at his home in Glen Osborne, from apoplexy, after an Illness of ten days. Mr. Arrott was born in County Donegal, Ireland, and came to this country when a boy, settling in Philadelphia, where he worked as a clerk for a number of years. He went to Pittsburgh in 1859 and opened an Insurance office. This business he developed and later organized the National Union Fire Insurance Company, of whom he was president. In 1879 Mr. Arrott established the Standard Mfg. Company of Pittsburgh, which concern rapidly came to the front in the manufacture of sanitary ware. The company passed under the control of the Standard Sanitary Mfg. Company in 1899 and Mr. Arrott retired from business.
