2. Winona Martha: b. 2 Aug 1898; d. 24 Sep 1983

John Whorton, 73, Dies at His Home

OAKLAND, Nov. 5 – John William Whorton, 73, died about 11 o'clock last night at his residence in the Davis addition, northeast of town. He had been in ill health for several years bur bedfast only a short time.

Mr. Whorton was born in Maryland, the son of the late John and Martha Rice Whorton. He was a plastering contractor in Oakland for many years.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church, the Knights of Pythias lodge, Oakland, and a member of the BPO Elks lodge Frostburg. He was a member of the Oakland city council for a number of terms.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Edna Whorton, Oakland; a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd M. Loraw, Grafton, W.Va.; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a brother, Harry Whorton, Cumberland; also a step mother, Mrs. Harriet Whorton, and a half-sister, Cumberland.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Bolden funeral home in Oakland Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. H. O. Teagarden officiating.

Final rites at the grave will be in charge of members of Garrett Lodge No. 113, Knights of Pythia. Pallbearers will be George E. Coddington, James Teats, Arthur Savage, W. R. Browning, Andrew Wolfe, and A. G. Hasen.

J.W. WHORTON DIES AT OAKLAND HOME

Word was received here this weekend of the death of J.W. Whorton, well known contractor of Oakland, MD., and father of Mrs. Lloyd M. Loraw of this city. Death came last night following an extended illness.

A concrete contractor by profession, he had contracted several jobs here in Grafton.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna Arnold Whorton, and a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Loraw. Also surviving are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., form the Bolden funeral home in Oakland, Md.
