CHESTER - Gene David Trombley, 67, of Chester, died July 20th, 2012, after a lengthy struggle with cancer.
Gene was born to the late Henry and Dorothy (Hamilton) Trombley, April 22, 1945, in Simonsville, Vt. Born at home on the King Maple Farm, Gene was the youngest of six children. Gene graduated from Chester High School in 1963 and went on to attend North Hampton Business College. Gene also proudly served in the Army Reserve. Gene married Karen (Monier) March 23, 1980, and enjoyed 32 years of marriage.
Gene worked hard on the family dairy farm for many years, eventually moving on to become a truck driver for a variety of companies. With a love for travel and small-town restaurants, he found truck driving fulfilling. He made many friends along his routes and knew the very best places to stop for a good cup of coffee and homemade pie, his favorite combination. Gene especially loved spending time at the ocean and going on vacation with his family. When he wasn't driving, Gene could be found working in his garden or one of his flower beds, often under the watchful eye of a calf, a sheep, or a horse living in the backyard.
Gene is survived by his two children, Kathryn (Trombley) Althoff and her husband Robert and Steven Trombley and his wife Heather, both families reside in South Hero, Vt. Gene took great pride in being a grandfather to his seven grandchildren, Marguerite, Elsa, Harrison, Joseph, Samuel, Lauren and Catherine. Gene is also survived by his brother, Quentin, and his sisters, Alice Perry and Thelma Puechl. Gene loved his role as uncle to his 11 nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to any of three organizations that Gene held dear: Andover Community Church, Andover, VT; South Hero Volunteer Fire Department, 322 Route 2, South Hero, VT; Food for Thought, PO Box 99, South Hero, VT.
The family will greet visitors at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, at the Andover Community Church, with the funeral commencing at 2 p.m. Family and friends may attend the burial in the Simonsville Cemetery immediately following the service or may stay at the church for a time of fellowship and refreshments. The family will return to the church following the burial.
