Jo Ann "Jody" Von Ruden, passed away July 21, 2012, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

Jo Ann "Jody" was born at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson on June 5, 1926. She was the daughter of Henry Raymond "Ray" McCrory and Ethel Kellogg McCrory.

Jody was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1943. She attended the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. At KU she performed and had the lead in theatrical productions under the tutelage of her friend and mentor, Professor Alan Crafton. Jody was a vocalist with Don Cousins and the V-12's, a student dance band.

Jody married Charles R. Bevan on Sept. 3, 1949. They had two children, who survive: Clark R. Bevan, Vallejo, Calif., and Susan D. Bevan Carden, Lawrence. On June 3, 1981, Jody married William J. Von Ruden, M.D.

Together they enjoyed family, music, sports and travel. Jody and Bill were contributors to the Jazz Scholarship Program at HCC through the Alumni Association at the college, which Jody helped to found and organize.

She was a member of P.E.O. chapter EK, Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary, and Reno County Medical Alliance. She was also past president of UMW and was superintendent of the Sunday schools for a period of time. She was an avid gardener and grew beautiful flower and herb gardens. She was a Cub Scout den mother, as well as helping with Brownie Scouts. She was a Job's Daughters Queen. At Hutchinson High School, Jody served as president of GAA and started the dance called Joe's Tavern, which has continued as a tradition at HHS. Jody worked as a volunteer at Hutchinson Hospital for a number of years and then was employed as a patient representative for seven years. She was a past member of the Hutchinson Board of Realtors and the secretary of Resident's Council at Wesley Towers. Jody was known for her wonderful gourmet cooking and such things as her sandhill plum jelly and pecan pies, which she would give to neighbors and friends. She was also known for her gracious entertaining.

Other survivors include: a sister, Marjorie K. Kalousek; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Domann (Dave); a stepson, Bill Von Ruden Jr. (Lori); and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Rhaesa presiding. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today until service at Elliott Mortuary. Inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum.
