Assistant Engineer, USS Pensacola, U.S. Navy

During the Civil War, he served aboard the USS Pensacola, stationed in the lower Mississippi River and New Orleans, as a 3rd Assistant Engineer. In September 1865, he served aboard the USS Chickopee as a 2nd Assistant Engineer. In 1866, he was an assistant instructor in steam engineering at the United States Naval Academy. He was appointed 1st Assistant Engineer on 30 Sep 1871, serving aboard the USS Swatara. Discharged on 27 Sep 1874.
