Luther L. Enzor, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, July 20, at his home in the Floyds Community of Horry County.
Born October 23, 1926 in Fair Bluff, NC he was the son of the late Quittie Montrose and Leona Joyner Enzor. Mr. Enzor was one of eleven children and is survived by two brothers and two sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was married to Eunice Williamson in 1955 and the couple have one son, Luther Scott Enzor who resides in Florence, SC with his wife, Betsy. He has one grandson, Christopher Wayne Enzor.
After graduation from Floyds High School in 1944 he served his country in Europe during World War II from April, 1945 to December, 1946. He continued service to his country as a member and officer in the Floyds Chapter of the American Legion until his death. As a Legion member he was a strong supporter of the Palmetto Boy's State and coordinated efforts each year to send representatives from Green Sea Floyds High School to participate in the program.
Upon his return from World War II he earned an Associate of Arts degree from Campbell College in 1949 and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest College in 1951. In 1952 he was hired as a teacher and coach at Floyds High School in Duford, SC. He taught a variety of subjects including history, mathematics, government, and Spanish. He also served as a guidance counselor and coached baseball and basketball. Floyds High School had two State Championship teams in girl's basketball under his leadership.
He earned his Masters of Education from the University of South Carolina in 1955 and in 1964 was named Assistant Principal at Floyds School. He was promoted to principal in 1966, a position he held until school consolidation.
In 1976 Floyds and Green Sea High Schools were merged and Mr. Enzor was named principal of the new Green Sea Floyds High School. He served in that position until his retirement in 1992. In 1989 Mr. Enzor was recognized for his outstanding leadership by being named the SC Outstanding High School Principal by the SC Association of School Administrators.
An active member of his church, Mr. Enzor served as a Deacon at Spring Branch Baptist Church for over fifty years and held various church offices, including teaching the children's Sunday School class.
Visitation will be held at Meares Funeral Home in Fair Bluff, NC on Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The service will be held at Spring Branch Baptist Church, 6710 Church Loop Road, Nichols, SC, at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 23 with burial immediately following in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the Luther Enzor Memorial Scholarship Fund at Green Sea Floyds High School, 4990 Tulip Grove Road, Green Sea, SC 29545
