OBITUARY: William Sylvester. Funeral services will be held Saturday for Oakley resident William Sylvester, 70, who died Tuesday at Kaiser Hospital in Martinez, California.
Mr. Sylvester, a native of Burtram, Texas, grew up in Chandler, Ariz., where he attended school. Beginning in 1937, he became a truck driver, eventually working for the Allyn Transportation Co, in Pittsburgh until his retirement in 1973.
He was a member of the Bethel Island Golf Club and the St. John's Lutheran Church in Antioch.
Survivors include his wife, Julia of Oakley; three daughters, Nadine Hickle of Fresno, Norma Tyler of Woodlake, and Paulette Bruns of Azusa; two brothers, John of Oceano and Hurbert of Lancaster, and five grandchildren. Funeral services Saturday will be held at 3 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home in Antioch. Burial will follow at Oakview Memorial Cemetery. Donations to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Delta Learning Center, 2904 El Rey St., Antioch, are preferred.
