MARY M. COE, 85, of North Manchester, died on Saturday, July 14, 2012, 11:55 p.m., at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester. Born Aug. 18, 1926, in North Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Rev. R. H. Miller and Maude (Reiff). She taught Home Economics and English at Laketon and Deedsville High Schools from 1948 to 1953. She was a homemaker and a business manager at Joyful Scribes for many years. She married M. Gene Coe on Aug. 15, 1948; he died on July 6, 1983. She was a life member of Manchester Church of the Brethren where she was hand bell choir director for many years and a member of the church choir. She was also director of youth musical productions for 13 years. She served in Christian education, was a nursery school teacher, secretary of the church board, and served on many committees and commissions. She graduated from Central High School in 1944 and received a B.S. degree from Manchester College in 1948. She was a member of PEO and ESA sororities and had been a nursery school teacher at Manchester Nursery School. She was the first woman elected to the Manchester Community School Board serving from 1966 to 1970. She was a life member and served as an officer of the Timbercrest Auxiliary. She sang in the Timbercrest Choir and served as director. She served on the founding committee of the Manchester Early Learning Center. Surviving are her son, Barry J. (Teresa) Coe of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter, Karen C. (Gary) Eberly of North Manchester; brother, Robert M. Miller, North Manchester; grandchildren, Britta Eberly Glass, Kyle Glass, Grant Eberly, Klancey Zubowski, Jerami Summers, and Joshua Coe; and one great-grandchild, Braydon Summers. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Dr. John D. Miller; and two grandchildren. Service is 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1307 Beckley St., North Manchester, where the family will receive friends following the service. Pastor Kurt Borgmann officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Memorials to Manchester Church of the Brethren- Perfume Fund.
