Architect. One of the most distinguished American architects of the late 20th century, E. Fay Jones was inspired to become an architect in his youth after seeing a short film about Frank Lloyd Wright. He later studied under Wright. Jones's most famous work, Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, was honored as the American Institute of Architects "Design of the Decade" for the 1980s, and it was voted the fourth-best building of the 20th century by his fellow architects. President George H. W. Bush presented Jones with the AIA's prestigious gold medal in 1990. Jones began teaching architecture at the University of Arkansas in 1953 and became the first dean of the university's school of architecture in 1974. He published 32 books.
