— Loyd was a mechanic in Burlington for 10 years. The family them moved to Lucas and Cincinnati, Iowa where they farmed and he also drove a semi. In 1980 he retired and moved to Beacon, Iowa. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed playing cards. In his retirement he and Ellen loved to fish and travel.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the St, Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. Visitation will open at 9 a.m. Monday and the family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m.

Victim, 89, identified in fata! blast at home
Authorities have identified a Beacon man who was killed in an explosion at his home. Loyd Baker, 89, died in the explosion late Friday, Mahaska County Sheriff Charles Van Toorn said. He said there might have been a liquid propane leak inside the house.
The explosion was so powerful that it blew the windows out in neighboring homes.
The fire that followed melted the gas meter off a nearby home and peeled paint off the side of the house.
Beacon is about three miles southwest of Oskaloosa.
