Irvin W. Sanders, 85, longtime Salida resident, died Feb. 24, 2005, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center from complications of influenza.
Mr. Sanders was born July 5, 1919 in Devall, Okla., to John Steven and Lueella (Womack) Sanders.
Mr. Sanders married Lorraine Horne on Sept. 8, 1939. She died in September 1984 and he married Marjorie Williams Bruce in January 1985. She died in 1993. Mr. Sanders married Edith Andrews in 1993.
Mr. Sanders was a member of Clearview Community Church, Buena Vista. He earned a chemical engineering degree at Texas Tech University and served his country in the Navy from 1941-45.
He was a past director of Colorado Christian University and Darren Patterson Christian Academy in Buena Vista.
Mr. Sanders owned and operated Sanders Oil in Salida for many years. He was supportive and fond of the people involved with Meals on Wheels.
Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents; wife, orraine Horne; wife, Marjorie Williams Bruce; sister, Frances White; brothers, Robert Sanders and Thomas Sanders.
He is survived by a son and wife of Storrs, Conn., and daughter and husband of Salida; sister of El Paso, Texas, and brother-in-law of Duncan, Okla.; granddaughter and husband of Salida and beloved great-granddaughter of Salida.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, Angel of Shavano Hospice (where Mr. Sanders' granddaughter is a nurse) or Clearview Community Church of Buena Vista, through Lewis and Glenn Funeral.
