Owen Perry Dabney

Born November 7, 1850 Vermilion Co., Illinois to Henry and Mariah "Stanfield" Dabney Died May 5, 1921 Los Angeles, CA at home with his family.
He lived in Vermilion County Illinois until he was 5 and with his family they moved in 1856 to Madison County Iowa by caravan. By 1858 they were settled in Jackson, Madison County, Iowa on a farm.
Owens father died in March 1870 the next year he married Nancy Ellen Bard Sept. 10 1871 in Iowa by D. W. Woods. Nancy born May 18 1849 died Sept. 1 1877
Owen was farming at this time in Winterset Iowa. Owen and Nancy had 2 girls Lenna 1872 and Alberta 1874. On Sept. 1 1877 Owen and Nancy were out on a buggy ride when Nancy had a brain hemorrhage and she died. Her parents blamed him for her passing. Nancy's parents and sister took the 2 girls and Owen went to Kansas. There he met Inez Harding (b April 1 1860 d June 25 1942) and were married March 4 1879 in Walnut City, Kansas. They had their first child Ava Maude Feb. 1880 and lived in Rush county, Kansas. By 1881 they had moved to Livingston, Montana. Here Owen started an Apple farm and was part owner in a cattle ranch with his brothers and a sister. (Joseph, Richard, Thomas, William, and Mariah Holliday) They sold meat to the military in Montana. There is where there first son was born Albert born Aug. 1881 and died in Jan. 1882. On Sept. 18 1883 in the Daily Enterprise two men with a number of horses were by Dabney brother's ranch and Dabney and Armstrong though they were thieves so they followed them down the river the men left the horses and ran so Dabney and Armstrong took the 5 horses to town and turn them in.
By 1888 Owen and Inez had 3 more boys Arthur Jan. 25 1884 Walter Oct. 5 1886 and Harold Aug. 21 1888. And by this time he was also into real estate.
By 1892 they sold their property in Livingston Montana and moved to Salem Oregon where they had 2 more children Joseph Jan. 20 1893 and Mary Sept. 1894 he opened a furniture and goods store called "The Fair Store" on Opera house block. Wrote a book called "The lost shackle" 1897.He opened another store in Portland Oregon around 1908 and closed the store in Salem in 1910. Was involved with city politicks and wrote songs one was published. Moved to Hood River Oregon in 1911 he loved this area and bought a tract of 5 acres from Stanly-Smith Lumber co. in 1913 located on the brink of the Columbia river gorge two mile west of Hood River.
Owen retired in 1920 and moved to Los Angeles, California where his Brother Joseph and his sons Walter and Joseph and daughter Mary where living.
He passed away at home on May 5 1921 and was buried at Inglewood Park Cemetery May 7 1921
