Calvin Odle died at his home in Montrose, January 9, 1937.

Calvin, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Odle, was born in Ray County, MO, December 19, 1859. On August 20, 1884, he was married to Mary C. Keeble at Teays Chapel.

In 1901 they came to Montrose, where they have since resided.

For 20 years he was associated with the J.D. Mann Grain Company and was a valuable assistant in the grain and elevator business.

When this firm was dissolved by the death of Mr. Mann, he took the position of night watch at the Montrose Savings Bank and ably and efficiently performed his duties until two years ago, when he became ill.

Sometime ago his condition became acute and Thursday his children were summoned to his bedside. Loving hearts and hands did all that could be done to relieve his suffering.

Cal, as all knew him, was a familiar figure on the streets of Montrose and was loved by both old and young.

He was especially fond of children and young people and every boy or girl in town called him by name and waved a greeting to him each time they saw him, be it many times a day.

He was faithful and loyal to friends and true to the trust they reposed in him.

Someone has said, "To have a friend, you must be a friend." Perhaps that is why Cal could count so many of his acquaintances as his friends.

He was the father of five children. The older sons, Jess and Edd, died several years ago. Richard lives in Montrose; Mrs. Lela McKinney and Wade Odle live in Pittsburg, KS.

The widow, three children and four grandchildren are left to cherish his memory. All were present at the funeral to pay their last tribute of love and respect to the departed husband and father.

The funeral was held at the home Monday, January 11. Burial in the Montrose Cemetery.
