Found this in the Springfield Newspaper Fri. page 4, M H Mason, a civil war veteran, died Jan. 21 at the home of his daughter Mrs. T M Hunter. He was the last of a Tennessee family of five boys all of whom were union soldiers. He refuese to draw a pension. He is survived by his wife, a daughter Mrs. Hunter, and three sons: Vay Mason, J P Mason, and M S Mason.

Saturday Morn. Jan. 23, 1909 page 2 Springfield Newspaper, not sure if Leader or Republic.
N R Mason, 75, died Jan. 21. To be buried in Hazelwood cemetery. He is survived by three sons, a daughter and a wife. The sons are J H Mason of Fair Grove, MO. M S Mason of Guthrie Okla. and Val Mason of Springfield. Mrs. Hunter of Springfield is the daughter.

I think this is the same man in both articles even though the initials are not the same. The finding of this article may also have solved the problem of who J H Mason was, but his death date is the same as this one...well one day off.

Information provided by another findagrave member Oct. 2015. I had the memorial as Nathaniel R. Mason:
This is Nathaniel L. D. Hicks Mason son of Daniel Jinkerson Mason and Martha "Patsy" (Hicks) Mason.
