Born in Karstula, Finland June 1, 1881. Came to the US from his home parish of Karstula with his brother Robert, on 6/17/1903. They came to Shelldrake to work with their father Erik in the lumber camp there - Culhane's camp. Matti was killed when a log rolled off a rail car and fractured his skull at the base. His father was Erik Eriksson Hastbacka Heinostenaho (Aho), his mother was Louisa Andersdr Norr Heinostenaho (Aho), his brothers were Robert and Victor Aho. His sisters were Rose and Hilma.
