A funeral for former Dayton resident Lula P. Clements of Newberg will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville. The Rev. Jerry Fidler of the Dayton First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville.

The funeral home will be open for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today.

Mrs. Clements died March 7, 2003, in Avamere, Newberg. She was 91.

She was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Dale City, Iowa, the daughter of Virgil and Alta Mae Dupuy Devilbiss. She was raised and educated in Sanborn, Minn., and Linden, Iowa.

She and Oran G. Clements Sr. were married Sept. 14, 1929, in Adel, Iowa.

She moved in 1930 to Carr, Colo., where she and her husband lived in a sod house. They moved back to Iowa in 1936 and farmed. They moved to Dayton in 1954.

Mrs. Clements belonged to the Dayton First Baptist Church. She was a 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge and also belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Knowles Chapter.

Survivors include eight daughters, Ruth Sexton of McMinnville, Sarah Barber of Newberg, Beverlee Towry of Salem, Elsie Webster of Albany, Nellie Bindel of Winterset, Iowa, Dorothy Ellis of Rogers, Ark., Mary Golightly of Pierceton, Ind., and LaVonne Morgan of Waukee, Iowa; three sons, Fred Clements and James Clements, both of Dayton, and Thomas Clements of Palmer, Alaska; four sisters, Hazel Barnes of Dexter, Iowa, Dorothy Devilbiss of Rippey, Iowa, Dorothy Lewis of Perry, Iowa, and Helen Evans of Des Moines, Iowa; 41 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husbnad in 1972; a son, Oran Clements Jr.; a daughter, Edith Koch; three brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to hospice in care of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
