MRS. FLY, 85, DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Mrs. Janie Stoner Fly, 85, wife of a former Victoria County judge and a prominent business and clubwoman, died at 1 a.m. Friday in a local rest home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Fly was born Dec. 12, 1885, in Victoria County, to the late William L. and Anna Priscilla Sutherland Stoner, and had been a life-long resident of the county. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben W. Fly, former county judge, in 1929.
She was in the real estate business, founder and organizer of Memorial Park Cemetery, and a member of the Bronte Club, the Guadalupe-Victoria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Wesminister Bible Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at McCabe-Carruth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Newton and the Rev. Charles W. Raup officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Martin Hamilton, W. L. Zirjacks, Bob Woolson, Raymond W. Hill, Zac Lentz and Oscar Wedemier Jr.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, friends may make contributions to the church or charity of their choice.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R. Emmet Maher of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. R. L. Cline Jr. of Lake Charles, La.; four sons, William S. and J. M. Fly of Victoria; Ben M. Fly of Houston and Capt. George L. Fly of Miami, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
