He was one of 13 children of Lithuanian born parents, John & Margaret (Deltuva) Clemitus(Klemajtis). He did construction work and then came west. He had an amateur children's boxing team in Troy from 1932 to 1942. He did prospecting for various ores, especially uranium in the northwestern states. He was a carman for the Great Northern Railroad in Whitefish, MT in 1942 until Feb. 1950. He was married to Louise Hall but they divorced.
