BERTIE APPLEGATE
Mrs. Bertie Applegate, 99, of Grandview died Sunday August 22, 2004. She was born April 15, 1905, in Shell Knob, Missouri, daughter of Joseph Menroe and Elizabeth Ann (Beeks) Hendrix. Shortly after birth, she traveled with her family by covered wagon to settle in the Blanton community of Hill County, where she grew up and attended school. She married Archie Lee Applegate November 22, 1920, and they later moved to Covington, where she spent several of her last active years until moving to Grandview. She was considered a "master" at crocheting and had many blue ribbons to reflect her woven talents. She was a homemaker and also helped her husband with farming and ranching. She was considered an excellent mother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially appreciated her grandson Steve and her daughter-in-law, Jane, for their love and assistance during her last years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, James Talbert, Bobby Dan and Joe M. Applegate; three brothers, Sylvester, Ed and Henry Hendrix; and one sister, Ollie Lester.
Survivors include: two sons, Roy Applegate of Hillsboro and F.B. Applegate of Joshua; one daughter, Patricia Ann Collins of Hillsboro; one niece, Maxine Teague of Breckenridge; one
sister-in-law;and numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsboro with Buddy Fry officiating. Burial was at Covington Cemetery.
