A daughter of William and Catherine (Lingenfelt) Slippey. She was united in marriage with Walter Bush Gates. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1959.
She was survived by seven step-children: Charles E. and Roy E. Gates of Petersburg, Paul G. Gates of New Cumberland, Bertha Schilling of Pine Grove Mills, Blanche Miller and Elda Benton of Altoona and Edna Rothrock of Johnstown; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also, she was survived by three brothers, Samuel Slippey of Altoona and Isaac and Ralph Slippey of Hollidaysburg, RD.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Belleville. Mr. and Mrs. Gates farmed in the Mooresville area for a number of years.
Funeral services were held from the Gilden-Barton Funeral Home at Altoona. Interment was made in the Geeseytown Cemetery.
