Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, Sat 4 Oct 1913: "Peter J. Cordial, one of the best known of the older residents of Allegany county, died quite suddenly of heart trouble in Eckhart this morning. Mr. Cordial was 71 years of age. Death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Davis. Though born in Hampshire county, W. Va., Mr. Cordial went to Eckhart when quite young. He engaged in the work of mining and eventually became a recognized leader in all labor movements, especially those intended for the improvement of the working conditions and safety of the men. He was once a candidate on the Democratic ticket for the House of Delegates. He is survived by eight children, one son and seven daughters. His children are as follows: Martin, Catherine and Mrs. Edward Davis, of Eckhart, Mrs. Frank A. Wolfehope and Mrs. Curtis Steckman, of Cumberland, Mrs. Messack Frost, of Clarksburg, Mrs William Wheeler and Miss Ellen Cordial, of Washington. D. C. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg. Burial will be made in the church cemetery."
