SPRINGFIELD — Bernice Elizabeth DeLange, 93, of Springfield, formerly of Girard, died at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at her daughter's home in Springfield.
She was born September 21, 1918 at rural Girard, a daughter of Charles and Mae (Davidson) Geier. She grew up at rural Girard and graduated from Girard High School.
She married Ernest William DeLange on August 23, 1936 in Girard. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1971.
She and her husband were lifelong farmers in Crawford County.
She was a member of the Lebanon Methodist Church at rural Girard and later at the Calvary Bible Church in Girard. She donated the land for the Calvary Bible Church Camp. She was a past 4-H club leader and a member of several home demonstration units including presentations on KOAM TV in Pittsburg.
Her greatest joys in life were her family, working with animals, and attending and singing in church.
Survivors include a son, Sheldon DeLange of Girard; daughters Debby Matlock, who provided for her care, and Glen of Springfield; Barbara Grimes of Climax Springs, Missouri; Karen Murphy and Jerry of Belton, Missouri; grandchildren Cindy Berg and Paul, Nancy Schifferdecker and Mark, Susan Hull and Wayne, Angela Kappler, Joy Davis and Patrick, Chris Matlock and Kylee, Amy Gemmell, Dwayne Grimes, Donetta Wakefield and Rick, Brett Murphy and Twila, Kevin Murphy and Stephanie, Jeanna Clanton and Allen; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alpha McMillan of Pittsburg; a brother, Richard Geier, of Girard.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Delbert Geier, Ray Earl Geier, and an infant; a sister, Deloris Leach, and a grandson, Larry "Joe" Gemmell.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Bill Kious officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
