Born in Mason County, KY just before his parents crossed the Ohio River into the Scioto Valley, Uriah grew up area of Ross Co., OH that would become Pike Co., OH where his parents settled in the late 1790s. While a young man, Uriah enlisted in the service during the War of 1812 to defend against an attack by the British and Indians on Fort Meigs. He married at the age of 31 Mary 'Polly' Moore on March 09, 1826 in Ross Co. She was 18 years old at the time, the daughter of Enos Moore and Elizabeth Dawson. Her brother married a cousin of Uriah. Uriah and Mary had 11 children, the last three born in Tippecanoe Co., IN, where Uriah moved about 1843 with his parents and siblings. Uriah was a farmer. Three of his sons served in the Civil War. Uriah, himself died during this war in 1862, at the age of 67, leaving his widow with still some teenage children and the young men away in service. Uriah is buried in the Armstrong cemetery, Warren Co., IN as was the parents of his wife Polly. She lived to the age of 81, dying in Tippecanoe County. Many of Uriah and Mary's children lived on in this same area (Tippecanoe Co., IN) and as did later descendants of this family. (credit Chenowethsite.com]
