Emma Jean Shockley, age 81, of Higginsville, died on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville.

Born Saturday, July 26, 1930, in Higginsville, she was the dauter of Gus Gilkey and Virgie Mae (Sayers) Gilkey.

She married William A. Shockley Aug 24, 1946. He preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1996. Also preceded in death are her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Shockley was a homemaker and moved back to Higginsville in 1986.

She was a member of Central Christian Church in Higginsville, a former member of the Higginsville Rebekah Lodge, participated in the Higginsville Foster Grandparent Program and received the Missouri Community Service Commission Award on April 19, 2006.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne A. Shockley of Independence, and Glenn A. (Angie) Shockley of Higginsvile; one daughter Sarah Jean (Charles) Klein of Raymore; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, at Central Christian Church, 16 W. 20th St., in Higginsville with Pastor Cheryl Sanders officiating and Melody Coen as organist.

The family will receive friends from 9 .m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church. The family suggests memorials to the Foster Grandparent Program or Crossroads Hospice.

Inturnment will be in the Higginsville City Cemetery.
