Benjamin was listed as a farmer in the 1850 census, and his eldest son Leonard and family lived next door.

He married Abigail Barnes at Dunstable, MA on Mar. 15, 1804. They had two sons and at least one daughter, Laura A. Shipley who married Ellridge Curtice and lived and died in Nashua, NH.

Apparently they had a son Benjamin M. Shipley who married on Feb 11, 1862 Lucy T. Fletcher, born about 1843. (1880 Census under "Shiply"; New Hampshire Marriage Records--also source of middle initial). This may be the 12th Regiment Civil War Benjamin Shipley who "died of disease on steamer "Ben. Deford," June 7, 1865" (source: History of Rockingham County, New Hampshire and Representative Citizens, Charles A. Hazlett, Chicago, Ill., 1915, p. 524).
