PORTLAND -- Lewis V. Crabtree, 71, of Portland, died on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at his home.
He was born in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Vinal Crabtree and Ruth Crabtree Seavey. Lewis graduated from Scarborough High School in the class of 1958. Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and was called up in 1961 when the Berlin Wall in Germany was created.
He married Virginia Libby on Aug. 8, 1959, and they have been married for 51 years. Lewis retired in 2001 after 38 years as a truck driver for Brockway Smith Co. of Portland.
He was an avid NASCAR and Red Sox Fan. Lewis owned several antique cars. He loved working on cars and was known to help friends out by working on their cars. Lewis and his wife Virginia did a lot of traveling throughout their life together.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia of Portland; two daughters, Debra Godin of Windham and Roxane Price of Massachusetts, one son, Darryl Crabtree of Portland; five grandchildren, Erica Hamby, Nicole Crosby, Amanda Zimont, Christian Price, and Samantha Price; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his dog 'Duke.'
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
