Ruth Graham DeLange, 84, of Girard, died at 3:20 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, following a five-week illness.
She was born Aug. 26, 1917, at rural Girard, to Fern Sr. and Goldie Maish Graham. She graduated from Girard High School in 1935 and was a lifelong resident of Girard.
On Jan. 27, 1937, she married Verdan DeLange at Lamar, Mo. He preceded her in death March 2, 1981.
Mrs. DeLange helped her husband farm. She served as a community leader of the Girard 4-H Club for 28 years. In 1956, she and her husband were named the Kansas Farm Family.
She was a member of the Slifferette Extension Homemakers Unit for more than 50 years. She belonged to the Lebanon United Methodist Church and attended the Girard United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Pete DeLange of Girard; two daughters, Patricia Steffens of Girard and Betty Miller of Tallahassee, Fla.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lelia LaForge of rural Girard.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Fern Graham Jr., and two sisters, Jessie Wilson and Sarah Graham.
