She was born June 10, 1929, in Braxton County, W.Va. a daughter of the late James and Oma White Benear.
She previously worked as a cook at the Ohio Valley Health Care and volunteered at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital as a newspaper distributor. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Parkersburg.
Irene is survived by a daughter, Janet Buchanan of Charleston, W.Va.; a son, Rev. Gene Sheppard (Kay) of Follansbee, W.Va.; one brother Charles "Buddy" Sinnett of Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, Steve, Amy, Susan, David, Bryan, and Karla; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale L. Sheppard; sons, Dennis and Ray Sheppard; brothers, James and Thurman Benear; and two sisters, Goldie Titus, and Virginia Richards.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, with her son, the Rev. Gene Sheppard officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 903 Charles St., Parkersburg.
