Edna Luella Wolfe, was born May 23. 1911, the daughter of William Henry and Anna Matilda (Schurke) Asmus. She died Monday, December 8, 1997 at the Crawford County Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty six
Edna was born on a farm west of Denison, where she lived with her parents. She was baptized in Christ, August 6, 1911 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa and later confirmed on March 28, 1926 in Charter Oak, Iowa. Edna received her education in a rural school in Paradise Township and at the Zion Lutheran School, Denison
She was united in marriage to Petr Carstensen in 1927 and to this union three children were born, Willis, Donna and Donald
In 1931, Edna was united in marriage to Clarence Ransom and the couple were blessed with the birth of seven sons, Kenneth, Bob, Larry, Tom, Darold, Dale and Jim and seven daughters, Norma, Carol, Janis, Marvel, Diane, Julie and Darlyne.
In 1972, Edna was united in marriage to Joseph Wolfe
Edna was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother wo loved having her family and friends around her and looked forward to Sunday dinners with them. She always had an open door to anyone in need of a place to stay or something to eat. Edna enjoyed cooking, flowers, watching birds and squirrels from her window at home and had a good sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her step mother, Maurine (Miller) Asmus; her husbands, Peter Carstensen; Clarence Ransom and Joseph Wolfe; four sons, Donald, Darold, Dale and Jun; one daughter, Darlyne; six step sons, Earl, William, Clarence Jr. and George Ransom, Jack and Orville Wolfe and Evelyn Schultz; five brothers, Edward, William, Alfred, Marvin and Loren Asmus; one sister, Elfrieda Hopp; three half brothers, Harold, DeWaine and Ervin Asmus; one half sister, Mary Ann (Asmus) Sterud.
Survivors include five sons, Willis Cartensen and his wife, Joleen; Kenneth and his wife, Beulah; and Bob all of Denison; Larry of Manning; Tom and his wife, Dianna of Deloit; seven daughters, Donna Kroll of Denison; Norma Bean and her husband, Paul; and Carol Goeppner all of Fort Dodge; Janis Woods and her husband, Junior of Rose Hill; Marvel Brunning and her husband Ron; Diane Schloesser and her husband, Melvin; Julie Jepsen and her husband, Dennis , all of Denison; one stepson Virgil Wolfe of Sacramento, California; four step daughters, Vera Jentz and her husband Bill of Westside; Ellen Lahr and her husband, Dean of Dow City; Goldie Anderson of Nevada; Maxine Hobsen of Ames; one half-brother, Alvin Asmus and his wife, Eleanor of Brookings, South Dakota; three half-sisters, Arlene Kurtz and her husband, Kenneth of Brookings, South Dakota; LaVon Lane and her husband, Brian of Flandreau, South Dakota; Lois Teal and her husband, Roger of Brookings, South Dakota; fifty eight grandchildren; ninety nine great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren
Edna was a wonderful mother, who was always there for her children and will be greatly missed
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 1997 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Oakland Cemetery, Denison.
Pallbearers were Derek Schloesser, Shane Ransom, Scott Jepsen, Tim Tornow, T.J. Ransom and Rick Smith.
The family invited everyone to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Forcas Society.
The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements
