Rebecca parents were:
Warren Essex 1824 - 1872
Rebecca Elizabeth Woodward 1830 - 1919

She was born & raised in Limestone Valley, Newton Co, AR & never married.

Aunt Becky Essex
Opal, Fayne, & Kenneth were grandchildren of Mahala (Essex) & John Curtis. Becky was Mahala's sister. They shared some of their memories of their aunt Becky Essex who never married.

According to Opal and Fayne, she mothered every kid in the country. Fayne said she raised three sets of children. All the children loved her.

She made apple pies when the family got together. She lived some distance away and would put the pies in her wagon to take to the gatherings. The road was rough, and by the time she arrived, some of the pies were crumbling apart from all of the jostling. Becky was known for saying things backwards. She once said, "Have some of this pie. It looks better than it tastes."

Kenneth said that Becky was a nice cheerful person and a big talker. He recalled a similar cake story the time she cooked a cake for dinner at his grandparent's place. By the time she arrived, the cake had been torn to pieces from the bouncing wagon. Becky said, "Here is the cake. It looks better than it tastes." After tasting it, Mahala told her sister, "No, it tastes better than it looks." (Opal Curtis Beck, Fayne Curtis, & Kenneth Bohannan.)
