Her mother was Catherine (Murphy), b. about 1800, d. about 18 December 1844, daughter of William Murphy, (Find A Grave Memorial #20802743). Both her parents died at Indian Ridge, Grainger Co., Tennessee, but their actual burial place is unknown.
Jane (Stalsworth) Townsley raised her baby sister, Nancy Alice (Stalsworth) Lear, after their mother, Catherine (Murphy) Stalsworth, died when Nancy was twelve weeks old. (Their father had also died about July of 1844.)
About 1867 in Missouri, Nancy Stalsworth married Francis Frederick Lear, who was born in Jamaica, and served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. They had 8 children: William, twins Amos Francis, (who died 1874) & George Frederick; William Edward Boyd; Jane Catherine; Arthur Daniel; Francis Cordelia & Cora Gracie Lear.
