A son of the late James T. and Anna (Small) Hockensmith, he was a member of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, McSherrystown, and of the Brushtown Fire Co. He was a retired employee of the Cannon Shoe Co., McSherrystown.
His wife, the former Mary Catherine Hufnagle, died in 1932.
Surviving are four children, Mrs. Mary G. Moore, Hanover; Albert J. Hockensmith, East Berlin, Peter J. Hockensmith, Hanover and Levere B. Hockensmith, Hanover; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. His eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services Wednesday morning with prayers at the Walter Funeral Home, McSherrystown at 8:30 and Requiem Mass at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, at 9 o'clock with the Rt. Rev. Msgr Patrick F McGee officiating, Interment in the parish Cemetery.
