He was born on Aug. 6, 1907, in Porterville to A.P.O. and Minerva Crabtree.
Crabtree attended Porterville grammar school and then moved to Modesto where he attended Modesto High School and two years of Modesto Junior College. He graduated from Chico State in 1934 as a teacher.
Crabtree was a dealer of Indian Motorcycles in Modesto prior to teaching in Concord and Nimshew for 10 years. He also raced motorcycles. He was engaged in researching Mythynene with the Dow Chemical Co. for 29 years until his retirement in 1970.
He was also a member of the Modified Motorcycle Association of California.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Forest Ranch; two daughters, Rowena Kellogg of Forest Ranch and Beverly George of Durham; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Inurnment will be in the Chico Memorial Mausoleum. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chico Funeral Home.
